Dear SAWA friends,
First, it’s not too late to register for the 2015 SAWA Annual Conference. The conference will be on the beach in St. Petersburg, Florida from November 16-18 right after the National Council on Pet Population’s Research Symposium on November 15. You can’t miss this year’s keynote speaker, John Kasaona. I was blown away by John’s TED Talk and can’t wait for him to share his experience protecting wildlife in Namibia. Join me and more than 500 colleagues for what I know will be an extraordinary time learning and networking.
I’m pleased to let you know that SAWA has begun developing a new strategic plan for 2016-2018. We will be recruiting many of you to help as volunteers in the months and years to come. Your voices and expertise are critical as we continue to shape and grow your professional association. Without our members we cease to exist.
I was lucky to see many of you last month at the Great Lakes Animal Welfare Conference in Battle Creek, Michigan. Thanks to the conference committee for asking me to present my talk: “Who’s the Boss: Understanding the Proper Roles and Responsibilities of a Board.” Next up: I’ll be at the Carolinas Unite Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this week.
Susannah Poe has joined SAWA’s team as our Administrative Assistant. Susannah has a strong background in office management and will provide much-needed support to our staff and to our members. Welcome, Susannah!
Your leadership is moving SAWA in the right direction and the input of our members will help get us there. Please never hesitate to reach out and let me know how SAWA can best serve you.
